In Reply to: Considering buying new 2001 JD, Opinions Needed posted by Joe on Wednesday, October 17, 2001:
: Hi,
: I can buy a new 2001 455 w/ 60" deck for 9400.00.
: I believe this to be a good deal and it comes with the same as cash 0% fin till Jan 2003.
: What are your thoughts on this tractor? Is it reliable and easy to maintain?
: This seems like a great deal.
: I have a 325 now that I am selling to a friend, it is a 98 and has 230 hrs on it and I have been pleased with it, the only prob is the power and I have 2.5 acres to mow so I want the 455 w/ 60" deck.
: Thanks for your help.

The 455 is the diesel version, is it not?? anyways, shaft drive off a spline comming off that bullet proof rear axle to drive all the toys you may get for it. The 400 series are outstanding garden tractors, and should last you a lifetime with proper care. I investigated the 425's because i was going to purchase to run a snowblower, and found the engineering and power far superior to any other tractor in its class..............Fair price as well. you'll find that all the JD dealers pretty much will give you around the same price on new rigs. If I'm not mistaken, get your purchase in before Oct 26th, and you'll save another 800 bucks on the 400 series rigs, but check with JD on that................Enjoy
