I essentially had the same problem, hot steering box, groaning sound when using the steering, vibrating / hot hydraulic lines. It turned out to be a seal in the steering box was leaking. My JD dealer did the repairs. Remember, when hydraulic fluid under pressure is leaked (i.e. it didn't perform any work) heat is generated.
