I take it that you mean, direct drive (fastest or high) is now with ta lever in the rear position. I would first off make sure ta selector valve is being pushed down into the mcv when you put the lever ahead, don't see how it couldn't but anything is possible. Next, I would suspect wrong gasket installed in mcv, and third, carrier installed wrong on shaft so internal passages don't match correctly. If mcv comes off again, pressurize the tubes in ta housing leading internally, TA (low side clutch pack) is the bottom one and you can observe the clutch pack inside housing as it is the front one to see if it is activating the clutchs. Middle one is direct drive, top is lube and do not apply over 20 psi to that one.
