Ray: Your 424 does not have enough gpm on pump for a log splitter. You must remember that hitch cylinder will only be a fraction of the size of splitter cylinder.
You'll have to go to a PTO driven pump and controls. Your tractor has enough power. My brother runs his with PTO pump and Farmall 230 at moderate idle. He can cut a maple cross grain at idle.
Talk with a hydraulic shop, you have to match the pump to speed of PTO and speed you want on splitter.
