In Reply to: Supe A with Super C motor posted by Clydeman on Monday, June 29, 2009:

Clydeman: All Super C and Super A after serial number 310300 use block part number 354898 R1. Number is behind oil filter. The difference is all Super A after 310300 use a thicker sleeve giving 3" bore and 113 cu in. Super C uses 3-1/8" bore giving 123 cu in. They can be changed both ways, just a matter of changing sleeves and pistons.

Super A used thermosyphon cooling, whereas the Super C had a water pump. There is one other minor difference, directly under No. 1 spark plug is a machined flat surface with letters and numbers stamped in place. Engines used in Super A were stamped FMC or FCM, (I've forgotten the order) Super A were stamped FAAM. Those letters alone are the only way to tell if engine came from a Super A or Super C. The numbers following are engine serial numbers.

There were 1,957 Super C engines installed in the last 1,957 Super A tractors complete with 3-1/8" bore and water pump Tractor serial numbers fall between 356001 and 357958, and that happened in 1954.

That same block can also be fitted with 3-1/4" pistons and sleeves giving 131 cu in and an optional crank giving longer stroke and 135 cu in.
