Peter: One item you have to watch even with a new cap. Wear can occur on the underside of the tank fill port, where cap clips make contact. I've had to add a thicker rubber washer on a couple of these. I tried bending the cap clips without much success.
If you found the info on the free caps, send for one. Most folks have been expecting that program to be discontinued in the near future.
