Jim: The power train is basically the same, may be a few minor updates in the 444.
There were two quite different 444, power train is the same, but that is about all. The 444 that was sold in the USA, was shipped from England as an engine, transmission and rear end, to Louisville KY. At Louisville, US manufactured front casting, radiator, swept back front axle, hydraulics, sheet metal, dash, pto, fenders, wheels and hydraulics were installed.
The other 444, same power train was completely assembled with British parts that I listed above. This assembly was done in England, and this tractor was sold in Europe, Canada, Austrailia and New Zeland. This unit, other than sheet metal is almost identical to the 434.
The main differences in that US assembled 444 are the swept back axle, hydrostatic power steering and Independant PTO. The British version has straight axle, power assist steering on drag link, and two stage clutch PTO.
