It all depends on what's wrong.
Could be a stripped pressure plate spline; does the power steering work? If so, it's not that.
At the other end of that shaft there's a coupler that mates to the input shaft of the PTO unit. The unit will have to be pulled to see what's up. It's a fairly easy job but the parts aren't cheap.
