Randy: It would be next to impossible to find a diesel to bolt up and work in 140 or earlier Farmalls. Small diesels like that are low cubic inch and high rpm. You'll also find those C-113 and C-123 engines have as much torque as most small diesels anyhow. If you add up fuel, maintainence and repairs, I bet the SA, 100, 130 or 140 will be less than any of the IH 200 series compact diesels.
After the 140, IH built the 274 offset with a 99 cubic inch oriental diesel turning 2,400 rpm plus. Two of my friends with commercial vegetable farm bought those new. The engines were very poor, both had to be rebuilt before 1,000 hours. Today my friends use a SA and 130 respectively. The 274s have been gone for 25 years. Need I say more.
