Barney: I don't have much experience with 444, however there will be a clutch adjustment one can get at in less than 5 minutes. It's either external at the pedal or the is a removable plate on bottom of chassis. Personally I wouldn't touch that adjustment without a manual. It will give you step by step. After the mid 1950s clutch adjustment on IH tractors with live PTO became a precission proceedure. Must be done by the book and also not neglected. The fact your pedal is hard to hold down, may indicate it's already been neglected too long.
