Peter: I like to only fill the barrel with concrete to within 1' of top. My reasoning, it makes a good tool box for carrying just about anything. If your into some heavy loading you can top it off with sand, gravel or rock.
I had two of these over the years, one the barrel was full of concrete, the other as I described above. I guess my use was a bit more than acerage tractor tool box. I found it a great spot to carry a chain saw, plus the gas jug, etc. It's really personal preference, 300 will handle the barrel full of concrete quite easily.
