ballylemon could be the selector forks may be worn they sometimes come out gear because of worn forks.if you could drive the tractor get it on the overrun and blip the throttle if it comes out of gear is a sign of worn forks may cause sticking in gear (i`m not sure) selector forks use sliders only these wear shouldnt be expensive to replace these parts. it`s a big expensive job to strip the gearbox. later 956 xl were 40kph boxes.the year of build is stamped on each rear hubs.have 956xl myself great tractor otherwise im also in ireland hope this helps.
