Like Hugh said, they have the same engine (and trans for that matter). The Cub will run a 60" deck but it is marginal for power.
The PTO on the 185 is different. If not properly maintained it can be pricey to fix but it is nice because it gives you an independent PTO. You can stop the tractor while the deck keeps running.
Depending on what you are doing, you may be better off with a larger horsepower Cub Cadet and a 54" or 60" deck. For instance, the 2084 runs a 54" deck very well and they did optionally come with a 60", it's smaller so its much more maneuverable and the hydro makes it easier to drive and maneuver around trees.
