Tony: The clutch type starter drive is only available at CaseIH dealers. They are not new to IH, have been around close to 35 years. I've had them on my Super A and 130 since 1992. They engage so much smoother than the old bendix.
Some will try and tell you, install a new ring gear. When I installed the clutch type starter drive, I had sent two starters for rebuilding. One came home with a bendix and the other a clutch type. The Bendix would not engage on either tractor. Clutch type worked fine on both. I went back and demanded another clutch type drive. I agree, my tractors ring gears were not in top shape, however that was 16 years ago and those ring gears are still going, starters have never been off my tractors since, other than unrelated mechanical repairs. I replaced the clutch assembly in my 130 in 2001, didn't bother changing the ring gear. The starter never fails to engage, and in 16 years I've never had a starter lock up. Quite impressive for old Farmalls, I've bought new ones back in the 50s and by the time they were 1 year old, starter lockups would occur.
