John: 15W-40 will serve your tractor well. It wasn't around when your book was written or when the 414 was built.
I've been using 15W-40 since it first came out and have had exceptional engine service in diesel tractors and trucks, gas tractors and trucks, Buick cars, even my 4 cycle lawn mower I took to the dump last year after 35 years service. Engine was the only thing original.
