Lloyd: Don't be too alarmed, what I told you was a worst case senario, it could also be a simple fix. If you can find someone with a service manual, it will contain a trouble shooting section. That will find or rule out the simple fixes. Those tractors were close to trouble free the first 25 years they were around. I bought mine new, put 10,000 hours on it first 8 years It seems the ones that put on big hours fast, give the least trouble.
That hydraulic and hitch system are quite complex. I had an engineer tell me back when those were new, "the only more sophisticated hydraulic systems were used on aircraft." Those hitches probably represent 10% to 15% of the cost of a new tractor.
