Robert: I'm suggesting you buy yourself an original IH operators manual. To start with hydraulics don't freeze unless they are full of water. If there is enough water in there and it is cold enough to freeze up the entire system, you have two choices; find a heated shop and it will take 3-4 days to thaw out vital points in the system, or wait for summer. Once you have it thawed drain the oil clean or replace the screen and replace the oil with new Hytran.
You don't say whether the 300 is Farmall or Utility, thus it's rather difficult to tell you where the filter is as they are different. It isn't a filter anyhow, just a cylinder type screen and on the Farmall it's just ahead of clutch pedal, circular device held in place by 4 small bolts. I believe the screen is under the seat on a Utility, same type screen held in by 4 bolts.
