I was blowing snow uphill with a rear mounted blower on my IH 706 gas. The trans made an awful lot of noise but never popped out of gear. I moved to more level ground where i tried running through the directional gears. I shifted out of reverse fine but no matter if I selected H,L,or N, the tractor wanted to go forward and I could not get it back into reverse. When I selected 'R', the tractor acted like the brakes were locked and the engine stalled. With some cussing and tinkering, I got the trans into Reverse. Now it will shift (loosely) into H,L,and Neutral but will not move. I can shift into reverse fine and it works but that is the only gear that works. When I try to shift into High the trans grinds a little but will not go into gear. The T.A. was taken out years back. It is my belief that the range gears are ok. Where do I start troubleshooting? How do I get the cover off? Is it the linkages? Can I do this myself? What is the worst case scenerio? What will be my cost? PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance. Need to get it fixed.... snow in the forcast.
