Rich: Your confusing me a bit, in saying Farmall 300 M. Which is it, a 300 or an M? Does it have live hydrauics with pump driven off timing gears and in between timing gears and distributor?
If yes, very likely your loosing oil along the pump shaft, (bad seal) into the timing gears and on to the crankcase. Monitor your crankcase oil level closely and determine if it is increasing.
If you've caught this in time a new seal should fix it. Make note if there is a groove in shaft where seal makes contact. Quite often that groove is as much the problem as the seal. It can be repaired using what is called a speedy sleeve. Creates a new surface for the seal to contact. Most hydraulic shops can repair these. How well is the pump working? Does the tractor have good hydraulic power? Just be sure of that one, no point in putting money on a bad pump.
