Greetings:

Got a '94 1720 with a newly installed FEL. Recently, the hydraulic system (both the FEL and 3PH) begins to fail after about 30 minutes of use. The failure is characterized first by hesitations (chatter) under load and then the system just quits.

Would appear that it is not getting oil but the oil level is correct and the oil looks/smells OK. The hydraulic lines and filter are warm but not hot (can keep hand on them) when this occurs.

Everything works again--briefly--if I shut down the engine, lower the FEL & 3PH, and start it back up again (engine off less than one minute). The system never recovers unless I shut off the engine. When it does recover, it is as good as new with the same power it has always had. However, the problem quickly returns when I start using the system again.

I suspect a relief valve that sticks when the oil gets warm and, somehow, unsticks everytime the system is shut off. Is there a low-tech way to test for this? Is this valve block located about mid-tractor, between the filter and pump? Would just tapping on the valve block when the system is under load loosen this valve?

Thanks for any input or ideas!
