Hi,
It can be a part of the run-on problem in the earlier post. The pressure in the tank pushes fuel through the needle valve on the carb forcing fuel into the engine. Loosen the cap just a bit and see if that will help. If so try a new fuel cap. I seem to remember some of the earlier 800 series had a heat shield between the tank and the engine. You might try fabricating one for your engine.
