I have found a far better solution than a winch. A company Futre Forestry Products, Inc. in Willamina, Oregon. They make an array of forarding arches for timber harvest, they have chokers and a two-speed hand winch on top. They can handle little or very big logs, I had them put a ball hitch on the arch, and I put a ball on the tractors hitch/receiver and I am in business! I also bought a small hand forwarding arch which I use to good advantage, sometimes I use it as a set of wheels for the tail end of long logs. Their arches can be set up with heavy duty tires, but I chose the low-impact tires usually used on Honda Quads. They also have arches which can be pulled by quads.
I came to this solution after years of "less than successful" attempts to solve the problem.
Their phone number is (503) 876-4488, www.futureforestryprod.com
I have no connection with the company, just a satisfied customer.
