Get yourself an I&T FO-4 manual for the N series tractors. $25 almost everywhere including FNH dealers, CT Farm and eBay...
The transmission and the hydraulic 3-point lift use the same fluid from a common sump.
There are 3 drain plugs for the tranny/hydraulics on the 8N. Warm her up and pull all 3 back to front (do not pull the oil pan plug under the engine block by mistake!!!). You will need 5 gallons of fluid to refill and yes, you fill through the access next to the shift lever.
The original fluid recommendation was for 90 weight mineral oil. The current Ford recommendation is for their M2C134D Transmission/Hydraulic fluid.
For most applications I recommend 80w-90w gear oil. However, if you will be operating alot in sub-zero temps, the thinner Ford Spec M2C134D will operate the lift better. It is up to the individual.
