I'm no expert but I do have a 9N myself. It could be the coil. I think they're only about $35. Other possibilities include:

Condensation in the distributer cap. Try pulling the cap and wiping it clean with a lint-free rag. I like to clean mine with rubbing alcohol then blow it dry.

Inadequate choking. Check the choke linkage to make sure you're getting full choke.

Cracked distributer cap. Clean it with alcohol and inspect it thoroughly in bright light.

Damaged/aged spark plug wires. Run it at night in a dark place and look for sparks where they shouldn't be any.

Plugs. Put new plugs in (they're cheap) and make sure they're properly gapped.

Timing. Check the point gap and timing. On mine I had to adjust it about 5 times before it ran right. I've also found that older engines tend to need tuneups very often to keep them running right.
