pete, the biggest problem I have had with mine is the carburator. I reecently put on a new one made by zeinith and am very happy. being that it is gas when you go to pick up, throttle up quickly and pay attention to the responce. If it hesitates or cuts out, an adjustment may be needed, this requires a screwdriver and some patience. your manual will give you factory spects. A local mechanic ie. farm related, should be able to fix a cylinder and i dont recall it being much over 100 dolars. I have never heard of calcium filled tires. don't really now how to check. I use mine on my 4 acres and do alot of clearing. The hydrolics on the rear will only come into use if you are pulling attachments that have hydraulic wheels to raise it up, or a 3pt mounted log splitter. I have a 871 and it ws made in62-63 alittle older than yours but still a workin machine. Good luck today!
