It could be rear main or front trans seal. Either one requires the same work to fix. I would strongly recommend repalcing both and check clutch thoroughly while you have it apart. Your friend has a piece of gold. These things are getting hard to find. I have one with broken ring gear. Impossible to find but worth the trouble. I will find it eventually.
