If these are used pistons they are to go back like they were removed usually marks toward front of engine.If new it doesn't matter usually marks front,make sure oil squirt holes are toward cam,iam not familiar with this engine but thats the way most of them go together.You might look at a different book,or talk to a NH dealers mechanic.
