I hope you will take it easy on a tractor greenhorn but my saga is this. I just bought my first tractor a week ago. Its a Ford 4000 3 cyl gas with a front loader and it LOOKS great. All new tires, new paint and seat and it runs really well. However, after getting it home I was crawling around unfderneath and lo and behold the front bolster was cracked badly around the rear axle pivot pin. This unit has the straight adjustable axle and row crop wheels so I am having a devil of a time finding a used bolster. Also realized that I never tested the pto to see if it worked and wanted to know if its possible to tell if it is working without running the engine. I turned it by hand and the bearings feel good but when I shift the pto lever to the on position itstill turns and feels the same. Does this mean anything? Does anyone know where I can get a good bolster? Has anyone ever had success having one of thes welded? All comments would be appreciated,
