I have a 1980 Iron Mule skidder. This machine is a Ford 5000 or similar model dropped into a skidder frame. When it was overhauled a couple of years ago, they weren't sure what engine it was, but thought it was bigger than the standard 5000 diesel. It's definitely a Ford four cylinder diesel with a Lucas injector pump. I use it about four hours a day. About a month ago, it started to miss and backfire at about 1800 rpms, and up, but only when not under load, such as going down hill. With a load, it will run as high as I can go, up to about 2200 rpms, with no problem. I've replaced the fuel filter, and had nothing bad in the sediment bowls. Do you guys have any idea what it might be?
