When one of the fingers breaks as there are 3 of them,1/3 of the plate is still tight to the flywheel,this will pull the tractor and foot pressure on the pedal wont change much.Sorry to say its going to have to be split regardless,you for sure have a problem.Not sure if you could see the problem with a mirror and a light or not.If you take all the free play out of it your throw out bearing will run full time and destroy its self along with the pressure plate.The clutch plate its self could have had a chunk come out and doubled up on its self.Good luck JR
