you do not have to replace ring gear on flywheel. D2 ,D4,and D6 all use the same starter drive it can either be 11-tooth or 12-tooth right helical drive clockwise rotation.You can get the starter drives at several locations. I got mine from a E-bay store whetzel's electronics.(Triodiode-DC-Electric-and-tractor).I have a D2 that I put a starter on,I used a 40mt starter but you can use 42mt starter.Also everyone says to use a 24vt starter but I use a 12vt starter and it works great. just use a battery or batteries with enough cranking amps when you buy a starter, that information will come with the starter.
