In Reply to: excessive blowby- problem found posted by Gus on Sunday, November 25, 2007:
Valve train was removed from head- which has to be done in order to get the injector out of the bore. When each cylinder was pressurized the air went through the breather tube- had 4 that didn't hold pressure at all. The engine is a c15 acert (what I refer to as the "chinese" engine since alot of the parts have made in china on them. Not being insensitive, just like to see a Cat made in Illinois and have seen the quality suffer...)
Anyhow, the h.p. turbo seals are good and the air compressor is not passing back into the crankcase. The blowby was not the smooth kind but chuffed out with each time the engine fired. Spun it up on the dyno monday- rated at 550 hp and was putting 505 to the wheels at 1500 rpm but also have 7.5hg blowby. Not bad power at all but the entire left side of the truck is covered in oil. This week we'll pop the head off and look for cross hatches on the liner, if none are found then I guess it's time to put rings on it.
Thanks for the input guys, had to go to this site just to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything. If you think of anything else please let me know- sure wish the boss would have given this to another tech!
