Disclaimer: This is the first piece of equipment I have ever worked on.
Here is what I have…
1939 D2 3J 3624-SP
It ran ok about four years ago before the owner split it to replace the clutches. The repair took him about three years of dinking around while it was stored in a barn. He completed the clutch replacement about a year ago, then discovered that the crawler would not run on all cylinders (seems to only be running on 1 or 2)
What should I look for? Keep it in mind that the only Diesel engine I have worked on is the Cummins that is in my pickup.
1) Should I pull and clean the injectors?
2) Is the injector pump simple enough that it would be wise for me to pull it apart to clean / inspect it?
3) How do I go about doing a compression test on a diesel engine?
4) Who is knowledgeable and reasonable with parts?
I have a local guy lined up to repair the engine, but I figured that it may be worth a shot to try to at least diagnose the problem myself.
I’m going to pick up the D2 on Saturday the 30th.
Thanks guys!
Peter
