The slipping out of gear is one problem that will not fix itself,the cause could be like he said or it could be that a gear has worn the teeth away or a bearing so worn that the gears are no longer meshed properly,try holding it in gear with your hand and see if you can while you push something,if it jumps out in spite of your efforts it is a teardown to repair it,things on the outside like leaks can be coped with but the gearbox is major surgery in that machine.
