case 350 dozer, track adjuster stuck on recoil spring

The track adjuster is stuck on the end of the recoil spring bolt. I need to get it off so I can rebuild the recoil spring housing. Can I use heat, I assume that would damage the seals, and soften the metal. any suggestions???
