I thought you would have got lots of advice from the guys that use backhoes,I am not an operator but in the repair business and as far as what you need I am just going by what I see,the standard size backhoe seems to be the norm for most jobs,4 wheel drive and a 4 in 1 bucket seems to handle anything,an extending hoe does give the extra reach and is not in the way when not needed,a good used Case 580SK is a good workhorse,not much goes wrong and parts are not a problem,have a look at machinerytrader dot com and you will get an idea of the prices.
