That sounds as if it is getting enough gas to keep it running on low idle and not enough to keep it running on high,as soon as it empties the float chamber it starts to die,check the tank is vented and there is a good flow of fuel leaving the tank,if ok check the line for blockage or been crimped,if thats ok and you have a good flow at the carburetor the needle valve might be blocked.
