It's a different storey entirely when the history of the machine is made known and I would presume the machine was ok till the first cyl rod broke,the piston probably took metal off the cylinder bore and some is still in the system,I look after a lot of Case machines and the hydraulics are well proven,why mud is allowed to build up around the swing cylinders is something that I cannot comment on as you will not find any backhoes with a static hoe in the UK,all backhoes here are sideshift,either way the operator should not pull the dirt up against the machine,if you get a new machine the same thing can happen.
