Your machine would have a Roosa Master injector pump,that pump was not used much here in the UK as they opted for CAV or Bosch,what I do remember about them that the surging problem was caused by some diaphragm or rubber ring breaking up but I can't remember exactly as its well over 30 years since I seen one.
