Had a look on the online parts site for Case and see that your 480LL has a Borg Warner power shuttle,the power shuttle has a forward/reverse and nuteral position,it is coupled to a 4 speed gearbox,you would put the main box in gear say first and then move the forward/reverse lever for the way you want to go,to inch or stop the machine you press the clutch cutout button,the oil pressure that was keeping the forward or reverse clutch engaged is released and the clutch disengages.
