Hello,
Thanks in advance for any advice. I am about to purchase a 1977 (serial no. shows 1979) 580c backhoe. The price is very cheep. The owner passed away 3 yrs. ago. His son wants to winch the tractor onto my rented gooseneck trailer instead of starting it. It's in his mother's back yard. He seems honest. He says the loader bucket will lift (pry up with a chain)slightly ( He thinks the loader cylinders are holding pressure). He also thinks the steering(turn the tires to get it on trailer) will not work at all without the diesel motor running. Is this true? The machine shows 1495 hours, trans. fluid clean, oil clean. Motor turns over and started to fire (popped when the intake was covered with a gas soaked rag. I am concerned about the shuttle shift trans. because of the problems I have read about on your forum.
Any advice? Thanks.
