There are two models of the 580K machines,the early model had the diff lock mounted externally on the cover of the R/H brake,the later models diff lock were inside on the differential unit and well away from the brake,in both cases the lock was engaged by a mechanical linkage and disengaged by return spring,I think you have the early model with the diff lock on the brake cover,whatever you got you need to correct the problem before the axle gets damaged,seeing you have a brake issue I think you should have a look at R/H side,make sure the return spring for the lock is in place,you could take off the diff lock to see if the problem has gone without it,all thats under the box like housing is a gear and a fork to move it.
