I posted a couple of questions in this forum recently. Since then I spent time checking out the case 644 I recently purchased. The problem I experienced, as soon as I started using it was poor performance in forward and reverse. Slow with no power however, the bucket worked fine. I figured if the bucket was operating properly it wasn't the pump since it suppllies oil to both components, the bucket and the hydro-drive. I noticed that the directional pedal didn't respond until it was almost completely depressed. Didn't seem right. I crawled under the tractor and adjusted the direction control valve so that as soon as the pedal is pressed it begins to move the tractor. I also adjusted it so that forward and reverse speed were the same. The difference from before and after is 'huge'. I did change the oil in the system when I first brought it home. It made little difference at the time. I ran it today after the adjusments and was amazed at the power and speed it now has in either direction. I have to admit, I had considered buying a new pump or hydraulic motor but, being a kinda frugal I decided to try 'tweaking' it first. Hope this helps some of you guys out there!
