It would be my guess that it is a breather,check the oil level in that compartment,it might be overfilled,if so you need to drain it,the most likely place the oil could be getting in is from the hyd pump,it may be a slow leak and take ages or it could be a fast leak and only take minutes,probably the seal on the pump shaft.
