580B Power Shuttle 4 Speed Trans
From the archive reading I've been doing the past hour or so, I think I've found the right forum!
We started preparing to split the tractor, but now that we're ready to move it inside we've somehow managed to lock up the transmission.
(First noticed when we attempted to start it, and it appeared that the engine was seized ... but there is no reason to suspect the engine.)
If we attempt to remove the transmission cover, it starts to lift, but the rear hangs up about 1/2" up and that's all we can get.
We were able to pull the shift lever out of the tower, and have determined that the center shift rail is moved to the rear -- 1st gear position? (The shift lever is locked forward.)
I have been unable to identify anything to "wiggle" or otherwise "tweak" to attempt to free up the shifters.
We jacked up the rear end and removed the differential - final drive cover .. when "rocking" the rear wheels the transmission output shaft does rotate slightly -- but that did not seem to have any influence.
My suspicion is that we have managed to get one of the shift rail interlock plungers out of position ... and there doesn't seem to be any access without removing the top cover .. which we cannot do.
Anyone been there?
Any suggestions?
We do have a set of shop manuals .. though we are having some difficulty translating what is on the printed page into an understanding of what is hidden inside the un-openable torque tube!
