Sorry about the late reply as the post had moved off my screen, there is nothing wrong with the boom not locking in position its the knack,start with the boom out straight behind the machine,dipper folded in lift the boom up fast and at the last split second push the same lever away from you and the boom will come the last inch.when you need to unlock the boom you need to push the lever away from you to the lower position and the boom will come up enough to get the safety off,you will think what is this guy saying put the lever in the down position to lift the boom but that is exactly how it works.
