I had a 530ck with a model 33 hoe. The motor quit. I just got a 580B with a mod 35 hoe. The bucket cylinder on the hoe is leaking. The case dealer said the ram was bent. Said I should replace the ram or the new seals may leak. the glan is good. This hoe had been sitting for the past 7 years. Prior to that, it saw very little use on a ranch. I will use it on a ranch on a limited basis. I have options: replace the ram with a new one, replacement ram is $300 plus rebuilt, replace seals in cylinder with bend ram, and hope the bend is not enought to cause it to leak with the limited light use it will see on the ranch. ( I don't know how long it could have been bent and not leaked) Or I can take the cylinder off my 530 and replace the bad one on the 580. The replacement cylinder is a bit smaller, about 1/2" in cylinder diameter and about the same in the ram diameter. the length is the same. I will have to change some of the pins and parts from the 530 to the 580, but it will work. The guy at case said thats what he would do. Said it should be OK. I would rather keep the cylinder that was designed for it on the machine. Any suggestions here or comments? I am not a backhoe guy, just a grape grower who know how handy on of these machines can be. Also, any suggestions on best place to sell the broken machine for parts?
