I'm not into ag tractors,this is no more than a suggestion,I had a look at the online parts catlogue for your tractor and see that both the range and speed shift is remote control made up of lots of rods,levers and cranks,it would be my guess that one of the rods is gone over centre rather than any trouble inside the actual gearbox,it is more than likely that a simple adjustment will cure the problem if you knew which rod to adjust,put a second person in the seat to move the troubled lever and you watch the linkage,if you spot the rod see what position it is in related to what it is attached to,try to move it one way or the other,your mechanic should have made the adjustment the last time.
