If I remember correctly the 1000 had a push button start, you switched on the key, held the preheat button in for 20 seconds and then pressed the starter button, things could have changed over the years,I can't remember a neutral start switch,I do remember fuses and that they had a circuit breaker as well, look for it and see that it it has not popped out,if so push it back in,making sure that all levers are in neutral cross the starter,on the starter motor solenoid you have the main battery cable attached to one terminal, the other terminal has an L shaped strap that goes into the starter, there is two lighter cables, one is a ground, the other is the exicting wire coming from the starter button, use 2 long jumper wire so you can sit in the seat, clip one to the main battery cable and the other to the exciter terminal of the solenoid, tip the two ends together and the engine should turn over and start, don't park your car or truck within stricking distance in case it does start and take off before you can stop it,that will have bypassed any relay or switch the starting circuit may have,if it does not make an effort to turn over there is an issue with the starter, the battery connections or the battries themselvs.
