Those 580's came with both mechanical and power shuttle,the mechanical version had a conventional clutch and the power shuttle a torque convertor,if yours is a power shuttle it should have a torque convertor oil pressure gauge on the dash,see what pressure its showing,it is likely that it is a P/S and that operates by oil,it has its own oil pump and control valve,if the oil is low could be causing the stall,start by checking what you got,then the oil level.
